GSG
Patented enzyme-treated stevia with reduced bitterness and improved taste profile
Manufactured in Korea by Daepyung Co., Ltd.
Stevia specialist since 1993
Stop trying to mask bitterness.
Most stevia programs fail in the same place — the finish. Bitterness, astringency, and a sweetness that arrives late and refuses to leave. GSG is built to remove that problem at the sweetener, instead of correcting for it downstream with maskers and modifiers.
What GSG is
GSG — glucosylated steviol glycosides — is an enzyme-modified stevia sweetener. Glucosyl groups are transferred onto the steviol glycoside backbone, which changes how the sweetness is perceived: it arrives sooner, sits rounder, and clears cleanly.
Daepyung has been producing glucosylated stevia since the 1990s, among the first manufacturers in the world to commercialize it, and holds patents covering the production of enzyme-treated stevia with improved sweetness quality. The range is offered under two families — STEVITEN and REBATEN — spanning more than fifty tailor-made solutions.
Why formulators use it
- Reduced bitternessThe characteristic stevia bitter note is substantially suppressed, not covered.
- No lingering aftertasteSweetness clears on a sugar-like timeline rather than hanging on the palate.
- Faster sweetness onsetPerceived sweetness builds early, closer to sucrose than to conventional stevia.
- Rounder, softer sweetnessFuller mouthfeel and better balance in low- and no-sugar systems.
- Flavor integrationWorks with the flavor system — lifts citrus and cocoa notes rather than flattening them.
- Process stabilityStable through heat and across a broad pH window, with no browning contribution.

The GSG range
Five grades, differing in base material and sweetness intensity. The lighter grades behave as flavor modifiers as much as sweeteners; the higher grades carry the sweetness load in reduced-sugar systems.
| Grade | Base material | FEMA | INS | Relative sweetness | Typically used for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| STEVITEN FRESHNext generation | Steviol glycosides | 4728 | 960d | ≈100× | Masking and flavor modification — soy sauce, pickles, juice, beer and soju, oral care |
| STEVITEN RICHNext generation | Steviol glycosides | 4728 | 960d | ≈120× | Flavor lift with sweetness — energy drinks, chocolate, gummies, candy, tea |
| REBATEN PREMIUMPremium | High Reb-A steviol glycosides | 5074 | 960d | ≈150× | Clean high-intensity sweetening — table-top, sports nutrition, powder mixes, yogurt |
| REBATEN G180Premium | High Reb-A steviol glycosides | 5074 | 960d | ≈180× | Dairy and premium beverage — flavored milk, yogurt, near water, cereal, gum |
| REBATEN G200Premium | High Reb-A steviol glycosides | 5074 | 960d | ≈200× | Highest sweetness load — bakery, confectionery, cereal, flavored milk |
Conventional high-purity Reb-A grades (REBATEN 80% and REBATEN 97%) are also available and are frequently blended with GSG to reach a target sweetness at the lowest cost in use. Full specifications are issued on request.
What it solves, by category
| Category | What GSG contributes |
|---|---|
| Beverage | Sugar reduction with a clean finish; suppresses astringency in tea and metallic notes in CSD; lifts citrus character |
| Dairy | Sweetness without lactose; synergy with dairy proteins for a better flavor balance; holds up in drinking and spoonable yogurt |
| Bakery & confectionery | Heat resistant; no browning contribution; sodium reduction support in savory snacks |
| Sauces & condiments | Balances against salt, synergy with amino acids, prevents browning — and supports a clean label |
| Pickled & preserved | Non-fermentable, so it avoids the spoilage and fermentation issues that come with sugar |
| Chewing gum | Non-cariogenic with long-lasting sweetness that holds its quality alongside other sweeteners |
| Table-top | High intensity, good solubility, no blood glucose impact |
| Nutraceutical | Plant-based and natural; improves palatability of difficult actives |
Grade selection and use level depend on the matrix and the sugar reduction target. Contact UniChem and our team will work the recommendation through with you.
About the manufacturer
Daepyung is one of the largest stevia producers in the world and the company that pioneered glucosylated stevia commercially. Roughly seventy percent of production is exported, much of it to global flavor houses — which is the most direct evidence there is that the sensory performance holds up under scrutiny.
